Half Dolls

Half-dolls were initially referred to as pincushion dolls but that description is too brief. Half-dolls dolls became popular as a means for young girls to learn sewing techniques in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Some of these half-dolls were so artistically and beautifully sculpted that many were purchased as objects of beauty with very little further embellishment. Used for pincushions, lamps, broom handles and powder puff dishes, or just as objects to admire, these bisque and china dolls were most popular in the early 1900s.
